Man attempts to rob house on Heeley Road

Keep your doors locked in Selly

Around 8pm on Wednesday night, a man attempted to rob a house on Heeley Road. Abi Whitehouse, an occupant of the house, was home alone when the incident took place.

Abi told The Tab: “I was home alone in the lounge watching Bake Off with the lights on.”

“The layout of our lounge means that if you’re sat on the sofa, nobody can see you from the back garden. So he’d obviously had a peek in, not seen me and started tapping on the window (checking to see if anyone was nearby or upstairs).”

“I figured it was maybe one of the cats you sometimes see running around, but then I heard handle rattling. I got up to see what was going on and when he saw me, he ran off before I could call the police.”

“I think they must’ve climbed over fences in the dark and had been going door to door checking someone has left it unlocked, which is why I posted on Fab. I’m just glad the door was locked – I don’t know what I would have done if he’d gotten in!”

After the attempted robbery, Abi warned others of the thief on the ‘Fab N Fresh’ page on Facebook.

She sent out a message which said: “People on Heeley road check your doors are locked. Someone just tried to break in through the back door whilst we were in the house. Keep an eye out and stay safe!”

Anyone with information about the mysterious burglar are able to call West Midlands Police on 101 or anonymously call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Whatever you do, don’t forget to lock your doors and turn the alarm on when heading out.
