A round up of exciting new things to do around Birmingham this autumn…
you know what they say? OUT with the old and IN with the new!
You look outside your window only to find it's pouring with rain.
"I'm not leaving the house today" you say, getting back into your pyjamas ready for a day of Netflix.
While this might sound appealing to most of you, I am here to tell you that actually, there are so many reasons for you to leave your house during this dreary, cold autumn.
Here is a definitive list of some of the new things you can do around the uni and the city of Brum in the next couple of months:
BALADS social dance classes
UoB's Ballroom and Latin American Dance Society run social classes every Monday evening from 6-8pm- these are a great way to destress and have a laugh with other people who (probably) don't have a clue! All abilities are welcome, no partner is required and you can dance the evening away for as long or little as you like!
Auditions for UoB's slam poetry team
These are taking place on November the 1st between 5 and 7pm in the Beorma Bar at the Guild. If you are interested in performance poetry and being part of an evening of amazing spoken word, why not go along and take part, or simply show your support for the brave souls who get up there?
Hindu Society's weekly aarti
If you are interested in a more spiritual break from the stress of academic life, the Hindu Society at UoB run a weekly aarti, or prayer, every thursday in the Cadbury Room at the Chaplaincy from 7-8pm. Even if you aren't particularly religious yourself, it is a great way to relax and reflect on the week that has just gone, and chat to committee members or other students about anything you want to get off your chest! Keep an eye out on their social media for information about events they are holding this autumn!
Or if that doesn't tickle your fancy, here's a taste of their flagship event Roshni coming up in February… (a performance from last year!):
BurnFM live music event
If music is your thing, then why not support UoB's student radio station at their live event at The Indie Lounge next month?! Put this date in your diary: Monday 26th November, from 7.30pm to 11.30pm! Various bands will be performing and there may even be a few special DJ sets from Burn's very own – not to be missed! Keep an eye out on Burn FM's social media pages for more details about this special event and make sure to head on down there for an evening of fun.
Investment Society sessions on raising commercial awareness
If you are a business-minded individual and interested in a career in Investment, why not check out Investment Soc's sessions they are running on increasing knowledge about business, finance and other areas of the entrepreneurial world? This is a great way to speak to other like-minded students and get loads of information on the things that keep society running! Check out their facebook page for more information: @UoBInvestmentSociety
Birmingham Christmas Market
Ok ok, we know HALLOWEEN hasn't even been yet, but if like me you love Christmas and can't wait to get into the festive spirit, the annual German Christmas Market returns to Birmingham city centre on November 15th and runs all the way up to Christmas Eve Eve on the 23rd of December. Bring your friends and family and have yourself a merry little (early) Christmas!
There you have it – some of the most exciting new things happening around the uni and Selly next month.
Ignore the rain, head on down there and have some fun!
