Circo is being temporarily closed down due to the third lockdown

Circo has now announced they will be closing from January 31, following the announcement of lockdown 3.0.

The bar managed to remain open for a couple of months at the start of the academic year but the announcement of a third lockdown has forced the bar to close.

Despite Circo building a kitchen in order to stay open in the old tier system, they cannot open in the new lockdown.

Following the end of lockdown 2.0 on December 2, the country entered a new tier system.

Circo announced that they would be serving food on November 2. The addition of food at the bar would allow them to stay open in the old tier system if Birmingham was in Tier 2.

Tier 2 allowed alcohol to be served as long as it was with a substantial meal. Tier 3 however, called for the closing of all bars and restaurants.

Birmingham entered Tier 3 straight out of lockdown 2.0, giving Circo no chance to reopen despite their plans to serve food and remain open in line with government guidelines.

Circo has now remained closed since the start of November.

Despite being a Selly Oak favourite, the third lockdown has taken its toll on Circo and they will be closing from January 31.

However, the good news is that it is not closing down for good, and it seems they will reopen at some point, but it is unclear when this will be.
