‘Wahoo is the best thing that ever happened to me’: This is where TripAdvisor says you should go out in Oxford

We got mixed reviews

This is what the local, knowledgeable adults of Oxford think of Brookes’ students’ favourite bars and clubs.

Wahoo

Home of Fuzzy Ducks and the regrets of most sports team members, Wahoo reserves a special place in our hearts.

One anonymous grad said: “Wahoo is the best thing that has ever happened to me”. Poor girl.

More alcoves please

Others are not so sure. One review was titled “average city centre club” and another said “perfect, but only if you are under 25”.

Purple Turtle

Ranked at 152/237 out of all Oxford locations on Trip Advisor, The Purple Turtle Bar has only one, solemn review.

On 23rd February 2015 one user wrote; “low ceilings”.

Enough said.

What low ceilings?

Camera

According to Trip Advisor, Camera is permanently closed which is totally untrue however we did manage to sniff out one review.

One writer was appalled at the service when strangers drank the VIP champagne that she paid a “small fortune” for.

One customer left very unhappy

Our advice: as a fresher, it’s your job to be poor and naive, so don’t complain.

Lava Ignite

An Oxford resident slated the nightlife in town saying “Lava might be worth a look but we’re not massively blessed with night clubs”.

#notblessed

Maxwells

The restaurant –turned- club has a relaxed, fun style.

“I wouldn’t say it’s the most glamorous place but if you want a club that is free, Maxwells is a good choice” one user commented. Honest, cost related reviews – that’s more like it.

Cowley Road

Cowley Road is a place many students can call home, locals find it “a bit too student-y” however, and “a bit out of town”, bless.

Maybe one day we too will look back at our nights out in Oxford clubs and see them as nothing more than grotty, sweaty holes with awful customer service.

Probably not.
