How to do Halloween on the cheap

You don’t have to splash the cash

You’ve got less than a week to go and your bank account is not looking pretty.

You could just throw some fake blood on and go as a “zombie”, or you could actually put some effort in. It doesn’t have to cost a scary amount, you know.

Costumes

There is absolutely no need to go out and buy yourself a new costume for a Halloween party or night out. Make up, accessories and fake blood can turn any outfit into a frightening one.

Take an oversized white tee and some black tights, shred them up, throw in some white contacts and within minutes you’re a spooky dead person. Use Poundland’s Zombie Spray if you can’t be bothered to carefully place the fake blood all over.

Easy

The contact lenses, although more on the pricey side, look good on their own. The slight discomfort is worth it for one night, if it means your make-up routine is instantly vamped up.

Spooky

If tearing up your clothes isn’t your style, keep it classy head to toe in black. Using white eye shadow, draw on some fangs and go heavy on the eyes for a more wearable, bridge-approved Halloween look.

Want a bite?

For those feeling extra basic this year, dead school girl is the look for you. Draw on some glasses with eyeliner, dig out your high school tie and throw your hair into bunches.

Throwback

The cheapest and easiest way to make an impression on Halloween is to pick up some cat ears or devil horns. They go with pretty much anything and take no effort to put on.

Treats

Don’t bother splurging out on expensive snacks. Ice your own fairy cakes using black icing in a simple spider web design. They will only cost you a couple of pence per cake and will go down great at pres. Combine a dash of red or black food colouring to your drink of choice to transform it into a scary looking cocktail.

Decorations

Synthetic spider web nets make great decorations. They don’t cost more than £1 and stretch out to cover entire walls and ceilings. Placed with red lights, these decorations will set the scene in any grubby student home.

Set the mood

If you care that much about saving money this season, you could grow your own pumpkin and carve it into a creepy looking jack-o-lantern. Alternatively, Poundland sell plastic ones which don’t go mouldy and don’t smell bad.
