JJ’s is actually the best club in Coventry and everyone who disagrees is just boring
The best night out in Cov is always in the firing line
Why is it that whenever you invite everyone to come on a night out to JJs that one 'roadman' mate of yours (who, more often than not, looks like they sell dodgy Supreme online) always has to give their eleven page thesis on why JJ's is the worst thing since sliced shit?
Okay, okay – JJ's may be lacking a lot of things. It doesn't have the multiple rooms or Rax (everyone's fave bouncer) that Kasbah has, nor does it have the amazing dancers that Empire attract. But what it does have is cheap drinks, songs you can actually sing along to and a LOT of wood.
Your boring mates who care too much about their aesthetic and reputation will say all sorts of shit about JJ's, like: 'it's dead, they play crappy pop music, the people that go are typical Fiat 500 girls'. Stop hating for a second and have a good time, please. Those Fiat 500 girls are having a much better time than you are.
What makes it worse is that anyone that says this always has this aura of smug pretentiousness around them. As if they're saying 'I know it's popular, I'm just too cool to like it'. Newsflash honey, disliking popular things doesn't make you look any cooler.
So why is it good? For starters it's only £2.50 for entry. We are assuming for this point that a) you're only going to go on a Tuesday, because we love JJ's but we're not stupid enough to think that you'd go on any other day and b) you're smart and sober enough to remember to obtain and successfully use a wristband.
Secondly, it varies. The typical JJ's hater would have you think it's the same experience every week. They couldn't be more wrong! The themes of every Boom Tuesday drastically change the feel of the club every week. I would much rather have a finger light rave or zoo themed night that's actually fun over whatever fake edgy event another club has on. It's unapologetically ridiculous and fun. No one is pretending to be cool here.
On the subject of fun: no other club in Coventry, possibly the world, give out THAT MANY inflatables on a weekly basis. I would much rather have an inflatable nemo than multiple rooms in a club, wouldn't you?
But what about the music? This seems to be the biggest complaint the haters have of this night out, to which I reply: get over yourself! It's a student night out, they have to cater to the masses so the DJ is hardly going to stick on your favourite Frank Ocean or Travis Scott bop. You might actually be lucky enough to hear a bit of Sicko Mode before the shit remix part kicks in.
Instead it's songs that everyone drunk enough can scream the lyrics to. If you want a club to just play your obscure grime or indie music maybe it's best you just look yourself in the mirror and admit how boring you really are.
So this is my parting message to you, the JJ's hater: suck it up. It's a fun night out in the one club in Coventry that doesn't have a mile long queue or take itself ridiculously seriously. It's great fun from the moment you leave the Uber right up until your first bite of the end of the night slice of toast.
It's a reliable, cheap, and fun night out and we, the JJ's lovers of Coventry, will not be silenced.
