Cov students queued for hours yesterday after 36,000 uni accounts were hacked
The accounts were compromised due to e-mail phishing
Yesterday the IT Support Tech Bar on the ground floor of Lanchester Library was inundated with students who had lost access to their student e-mail after yet another hack. Footage of the long queues can be seen on The Coventry Tab Instagram story.
The IT Support staff asked students to form a queue because there were so many people requiring assistance. This led to students queuing for up to an hour.
The Coventry Tab has been told by a student who spoke to IT staff that up to 36,000 student and staff accounts were hacked in this latest breach.
The queue has been even longer during earlier periods
A notification was sent to CUMoodle late December however it has started to mass-effect students recently
The phishing attack has prevented many students from being able to access their e-mail and Moodle, meaning they are unable to complete or submit their assignments.
Technicians at the IT Support Tech Bar told The Coventry Tab: “There was a mass scale phishing attack and many students accounts were compromised as they clicked on the blue button.”
It is advised to avoid opening a suspicious e-mail and to instead forward it to the service desk. It is unclear how long it will take to resolve this issue.
