Oktoberfest

Review of the German Society’s Oktoberfest.

| UPDATED

Beer, bratwursts, and booming Bavarian music. Exactly what you’d expect at Oktoberfest.

Well that’s exactly what Edinburgh University’s own German Society provided last Thursday night, with pretzels of course. Teviot Debating Hall was magnificently transformed into a rather Harry Potter like drinking tent, benches and flags in place.

Some people weren’t too keen on the Austrian flag…

For only a small ticket price of £8 (£6 members, bargain), you gained entry into this German fest to munch on tasty food (though there were some complaints about hard pretzels, nothing a little mustard won’t solve) and la-la your way through the drinking songs. Paying for the specially imported German beer was well worth it, but getting a how-to on pouring it it was essential.

Or you just slug it out of the bottle.

Unfortunately, lederhosen and dirndl were rare except for those few dedicated people. We know what they’ll be wearing for Halloween….

Good food, good music (yes there was German house to finish the night) and good beer. What’s not to like? Oh and St Andy’s, this one was actually in October.
