Edinburgh drops out of top 20 UK unis

Our student satisfaction is shit…again

The University of Edinburgh has been ranked 22nd in the Times University Guide 2015, down eight places from last year.

Overtaken by the University of Southampton, University of Sheffield, University of Leicester…the list goes on.

Meeting with a personal tutor for ten minutes twice a year isn’t improving the student experience

Bad news is Edinburgh got 77.4 per cent for student satisfaction putting us at a dismal 115th in the country.

Clearly our new personal tutor system and peer support systems are failing to change the minds of graduates filling out the National Student Survey.

Better news is we came sixth for research quality, ninth for Ucas entry points, 18th for student-staff ratio and The Times called us “the nearest thing to Oxbridge”.

Is being world leading at research good enough for us?

In the QS World University rankings, which do not look at student satisfaction to determine rankings, we came 17th in the world and yet we can’t crack into the top 20 in the UK. Should we care about rankings at all?
