Second year qualifies for World Croquet Championships

A talented Civil Engineering student is jetting off this week to New Zealand to play croquet for three weeks.

John-Paul Moberly will be swinging his mallet, called King Robert’s Hammer in case you were wondering, in both the under-21 and full world championships.

Yes, they exist.

Doing it for Queen and country

He said: “I’m hoping to wield my trusty mallet with devastating effect.”

Ranked 154th in the world JP isn’t expecting too much from the world championships, but said: “I’m hoping to execute some croquet banditry.”

As a world class athlete, JP takes his training regime very seriously.

Unlike the rugby boys you won’t run into JP down in the Performance Gym.

Instead he’ll be at the Meadows Croquet Club, where he can be found practising his swing and rocketing.

JP couldn’t be happier to be representing team England

Despite missing three weeks of classes, JP isn’t too worried about catching up with his uni work.

He said: “I’ll just have to be the first student to actually work over Innovative Learning Week.”
