New Town amongst Scotland’s burglary hot spots

New Town and its surrounding areas are the fifth most targeted areas for burglary in Scotland, new rankings have revealed.

Moneysupermarket.com’s Burglary Claim Tracker found that the EH3 postcode has a rate of 25 claims per 1000 quotes.

This is the third highest in Edinburgh, with EH4 and EH14 having 32.5 and 30.7 claims respectively.

Kevin Pratt, home insurance expert at MoneySuperMarket, said:

“Edinburgh postcodes dominate the top burglary claim hotspots in Scotland, with other high claim areas around Glasgow’s suburbs, including Newton Mearns, Anniesland and Darnley.”

“Clearly, thieves target urban areas where there’s lots of activity to mask what they’re up to – but they also favour quiet areas where they can operate with less chance of being caught in the act.”

“In short, they’ll go pretty much anywhere they think they can carry out their crime and get away with it, which means everyone needs to be conscious of the threat and make their home as safe and secure as possible.”
