Edinburgh is the most expensive city for students in the UK

Even worse than London

Our fair city is notorious for being expensive, whether it’s rent, nights out or just getting around. But a new report from Natwest has found Edinburgh is the least cost effective city to be a student.

By calculating how much money we get every term, through student loans, part-time work and help from our parents, they found we get just under £1,000 a term. But with rent at an above-average £112 a week and expensive nights out, it’s the costliest city to be a student.

The Student Living Index surveyed 2,500 students. We were also found to spend the most on going out, at an average of £8.19 a week – the highest in the UK. The national average was just £6.65.
