The Halifax on Princes Street has been evacuated after ‘suspicious package’ found

Trams have been stopped and parts of the road closed

At 12:30 today the Halifax on Princes Street was evacuated after reports came in of a suspicious package.

Bomb disposal officers were subsequently sent into the bank branch, and the surrounding shops evacuated. Traffic was stopped, and for half an hour, and all trams between the West End and York Place were suspended.

This comes a day after Glasgow University was evacuated because of a suspicious package found in the mail room.

UPDATE: The bomb disposal unit left Princes Street at 14:30, after police found the package to contain clothing, posing no risk to the public.
