Edinburgh is to remain in Level 3 coronavirus restrictions confirms Nicola Sturgeon

Nicola Sturgeon has confirmed that Edinburgh will remain in Level 3 coronavirus restrictions, despite seeing improvement in the cases.

No authority in Scotland is moving down a level, but Fife and Perth are being added to Level 3.

Nicola said Edinburgh is being “watched closely” and if people continue to follow the rules, “they may be able to move out of Level 3 soon.”

“On cases per 100,000 the change in Edinburgh has been zero,” Nicola said, “Before we could be confident in moving it down a level we would have to see a real decrease in cases but we hope we will see that in the coming weeks.”

Level 3 means that restaurants, cafes and pubs are able to open until 6pm to serve food and drinks providing that no alcohol is served.

These places are open to groups of up to six people from two households. No alcohol can be served indoors or outdoors.

All leisure venues remain closed, including cinemas. Travel restrictions will remain as guidance for now and not law.

Areas such as Glasgow and Lanarkshire are most under threat for consideration into Level 4.
