Edinburgh students react to the ending of Covid restrictions

‘This is so fucking stupid’

Nicola Sturgeon announced earlier this week that all legal Covid restrictions in Scotland will end on March 21st.

This means that the wearing of face coverings and the vaccine passport scheme will no longer be mandatory in Scotland.

There have been mixed reactions to this news across the country, so we asked over on our Instagram how you really feel about the announcement. The responses were overwhelmingly negative.

Here’s what Edinburgh students had to say about the relaxation of Covid laws:

‘It makes me scared. I’m immunosuppressed, so already anxious WITH restrictions’

‘I think it’s brilliant news’

‘Nobody wears face coverings anyway, but why get rid of vaccine passports?’

‘This is so fucking stupid’

‘I’m relieved, we need to start getting back to normal life’

‘I feel unhappy and unsafe’

‘Ew. It shows there is no care for the most vulnerable people in our community’

‘I’m happy to be getting back to normal’

‘I’m fucking terrified. At least keep masks in public places!’

‘It feels too soon tbh. The moment another variant appears we’ll all be right back where we started’

‘They better give us in-person lectures if they’re getting rid of legal restrictions’

‘I’m relieved, it’s been too long’

‘It makes me incredibly nervous. Omicron is more viral than anything we’ve faced before’

‘Feels like it’s been a long time coming!’

‘It’s great news’

‘All the yahs in my studio have already been exempt from mask wearing since Christmas anyway…’
