A Leeds second year has released his own album

He says it’s a mix of Tom Odell and Muse

A second year language student is aiming for the big time after releasing his own album.

Fin Henderson, who studies French and Italian, released At Least We’ll Sing in late October and is already seeing success with album sales in hard copy and on iTunes.

Speaking to The Tab, Fin said: “I’d always had a passion for music but it wasn’t until the end of first year that I really got to focus my passion back on it.

“I started in about March with just a few ideas, which I will admit have completely changed now, but they sparked the album and that’s when I started recording in my little halls room in Devonshire.

“Then over the summer I locked myself in  my room basically nine til five and forced myself to get on with it. Over the course of that I eventually came up with what is now the album.”

When asked what the meaning behind the songs on the album were, Fin said: “Some of the songs were written because I was writing with a purpose. Although, sometimes the words are actually just nonsense, so some of them are just phonetically appealing with a phrase that just catches the ear.

“Everything is written by me and everything is done by me, and the instruments are sort of added in by me, which is why it was so difficult to reproduce live.

” I think I ended the album on quite an individual sound and I really don’t know who I sound like. Which could be a good or a bad thing as people will say  ‘It’s original’ or ‘He’s completely missed the mark’. It’s really hard to make it one specific genre.

“If I really had to compare myself to other people it would be like a mixture of Tom Odell and Muse. It’s pop but also a bit theatrical.”

Fin also credited support from BandSoc, saying: “I posted my album on the BandSoc Facebook page as I knew I wanted my album to have a huge band sound.

“I was thinking I can’t produce this all by myself, so prayed someone would  be interested in playing with me. I got a pretty decent response, so got drum and bass and things and got a full band to play the album, so I was intensely grateful as I never expected that to happen.”

Fin also said: “I want people to engage with me, tell me what they think. Even they want to shout abuse at me, I’d appreciate the feedback.

“They don’t necessarily have to want to buy the album but just to talk or ask advice if they wanted to do something their self. I should be recognisable, I’ve always got my scooter!”

Fin’s album is available to buy from iTunes, or you can purchase a copy from him directly.
