Essentials are selling individual Babybels for 59p and it is a scandal

Is this meant to be some kind of sick joke?

In what is being described as the most grotesque example of extortion since the price of a Freddo chocolate bar shot up from 10p to 25p, the Leeds University Union supermarket are selling single Babybels for 59p each.

Absolute chutzpah

To put this in perspective, the cost of a pack of six Babybels is just £1 at most supermarkets including Tesco, Asda, and Aldi. Even the higher-end supermarkets like Ocado and Waitrose charge less than £2 for 6 Babybels.

The union are asking you to fork out almost two thirds of a £1 for just one. Feeling sick yet?

The shocking revelation was made by politics students Helen Clifford while she was innocently perusing the shelves for a light dairy snack. She told The Tab: “I was absolutely mortified to discover that Essentials we’re selling a single Babybel, which is 20g-worth of cheese, for almost 60p.

“That’s practically 10 per cent of my measly minimum wage. Its bad enough that we’re paying £9,000 a year for uni, this just adds insult to injury.”

Another student said: “First Brexit, now this. I want my country back.”
