Stop hating on girls who wear gym clothes out of the gym

They’re cute, leave me alone

Recently there seems to be some obsession with criticising girls wearing gym clothes – god forbid – not in the gym. Most of us have probably seen the ‘activewear’ video, taking the piss out of any girl doing exactly this. Fair enough, gym clothes are made for the gym but why can’t girls wear them outside of the gym? Is there are a rule none of us know about to say we can’t do this? Well, there’s actually multiple reasons that justify such a violation.

They are super comfy

Personally, gym leggings and sports bras are one of life’s most greatest and comfiest inventions. They are stretchy, durable, you can pair them both with a baggy jumper and trainers and you are set to go. Lounging around in gym clothes all day is one of life’s great comforts, honestly if you haven’t tried it you haven’t lived.

Gym leggings actually look really nice

If anyone’s walked past Sweaty Betty recently, the eyes are immediately drawn to the bright, bold, tropical prints that are central to most of their gym wear. None of us want to buy such gorgeous items of clothing, only to subject them to just being seen by people paying no interest in you, focusing on their own workouts. They are a fashion statement. Wear them out with pride.

Does anyone realise how expensive gym wear can be?

Okay so it is possible to buy cheaper gym wear that is just as nice and lasts as long as the expensive kind. But, places like lulu lemon, nike, adidas, all have price tags that may set you back a few weeks. Wearing them out of the gym is also a way of getting good value for money instead of just wearing them for a maximum of maybe a couple of hours a day in the gym. What a good investment.

Trainers technically count as gym clothes…don’t they?

Back in the day it seems that trainers weren’t quite the fashion statement they are today. Trainers used to be solely for exercise and going to the gym and that was it. We live in an age where trainers have been made into a fashion statement, which is amazing considering how comfortable and long-lasting they are. So, the question is why can’t we just make gym clothes as normal and day-to-day as trainers seem to have become?

So, remember this next time you try and make fun of girls wearing any ‘activewear’ outside the gym. They are just one of life’s greatest comforts. Coming home and getting into your gym leggings and a cosy jumper is something that can definitely take the edge off a rough week.
