Uni of Leeds scraps late penalties for a week on coursework for all students

The University of Leeds has offered all students with assignments due between the 8th and 22nd January a one-week period after the original deadline where late penalties will not apply.

Students received an email earlier today from Interim Deputy Vice-Chancelllor, Peter Jimack,  to inform them of the development. The extended deadlines applies to all undergraduate and Masters coursework.

It does not apply to times assessments scheduled for during the exam period.

It will still be possible to apply for mitigating circumstances on top of this.

The email read: “Given the additional impact of the national lockdown that came into place in England from 6 January, on top of the existing pressures we know you are facing, we will not be imposing penalties for late submission, of up to one week, on all coursework with a deadline between Friday 8 January and Friday 22 January.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this applies to coursework already set and does not apply to timed assessments that are scheduled for the examination period. The usual mechanisms for applying for extensions, or other adjustments, for mitigating circumstances will remain open to all students. You are encouraged to use these channels and we will continue to consider all such requests sympathetically.”
