Will UCLU Men’s Rugby secure third Varsity victory in a row this Friday?
This Friday 14th of March, UCLU and KCLSU will clash in arguably the biggest rivalry in the London Varsity Series – the Rugby Varsity. After it was cancelled last year to much disappointment, the two sides are returning stronger and with more to prove.
The London Rugby Varsity tradition will carry on this Friday 14th of March at Allianz Park. UCLU Men’s Rugby (with support from the mascot Kingslayer) will take on KCLSU Men’s Rugby at 7:30pm after the women’s match.
UCLU and KCLSU Men’s Rugby teams both compete in BUCS South Eastern 2B and are respectively 3rd and 2nd in the league. Both teams have secured 11 BUCS wins this season, however Strand Poly lead in goal difference.
Before Christmas, the two sides came face to face on KCL’s home turf and the score was 31-18 to King’s. Our UC men scored 3 tries but were unsuccessful in getting the conversions in, whilst King’s scored 4 and secured all conversions, and both teams scored a penalty each.
In the 2012 Varsity, UCLU beat KCLSU 24-7. In the unofficial Gower-Strand Varsity last year, our UC men won again, the score being 20-14.
With some old and fresh legs on board, our men in purple will need to put everything in and more to secure a victory over Strand Poly.
Tickets are selling fast as the days are dwindling away to D Day. Get yours now to avoid disappointment – after party TBA.
In the meantime, get to know your UC Rugby men before the big day:

When did you start playing rugby?
I have played rugby since I was 4. Brought up in a tough rugby league environment, I modelled myself upon the likes of Andy Farrell, Keith Senior and Terry Newton. Since coming to UCL I have made the transition to Union, albeit unhappily, and I am slowly starting to get to grips with the different laws of this Southern game.
