The poster opposite UCLU cost over £2,000

It’s hung on 22 Gordon Street

The Tab can now reveal that the massive, ugly banner stretched across 22 Gordon Square, cost an eye-watering £2,038.40.

The banner hangs opposite UCLU, where Phineas is, and just along from the David Ricardo building.

UCL said: “The banner was produced specifically for re-use on different buildings at various times throughout the Transforming UCL programme.

“It is for this reason that it is a panel (the same width as a standard Bloomsbury Townhouse building) rather than a bespoke size for each building and when it is no longer required it will be recycled.”

Despite UCL’s evident commitment to recycling, second year Historian Emili Stevenson said: “I realise that draping a horrific green pattern on some ugly scaffolding might seem a sensible idea for some of the big wigs on campus, but it seems a bit of a waste of money when we’re paying £9000 a year if you ask me.”

Ironically, the new building work is set to make way for a new faculty of Architecture, a £30 million refurbishment due for completion this summer.
