These students have moved in to Amy Winehouse’s old Camden pad

Far away from the dingy squalor of a standard Cally Road flat, three third years have just moved in to an iconic Camden property famed for being home to Amy Winehouse in her heyday.

Third year Natural Science students Jamie and Katie, alongside Nathanael, a third year Chemistry student, moved in to the flat earlier this week after spotting a listing on Right Move.

Katie explains that she had no idea of its star-studded history: “I was looking at the virtual tour and there were like annotations to it and I saw things that used the name Amy on it like ‘Amy’s fridge where she used to pin up drawings she made’ and stuff and was like ‘who tf is Amy’.”

In fact, Amy lived in the Prowse Place flat for a number of years before eventually moving to 30 Camden Square, which was to be her final home prior to her tragic death in July 2011.

Camden is synonymous with the Back to Black singer, who often frequented Koko (formerly Camden Palace), The Hawley Arms (on Castlehaven Road) and played many of her first gigs at The Dublin Castle on Parkway.

But now her old safe haven, a place some say she felt “trapped” with the impending paparazzi lurking outside, is now home to three UCL students who’ve made it their own.

The flat came unfurnished, but features space for three bedrooms, a spacious and open living area, as well as two bathrooms – one of which comes with a bath, shower and two sinks. What’s more, the bath is situated right next to the door entry system, meaning you don’t even have to get out of the bath to let in your friends.

There’s also a small private garden and smoking balcony upstairs, meaning the house is ideal for house parties, with Katie explaining: “We’re gonna have dinner parties and a viewing of the Amy Winehouse film on our projector. We’re considering a proper party but haven’t decided yet because rugby lads have potential to ruin our lives by breaking everything.”

The three new residents are paying no more than average for the area, and are buzzing to be moved in ready for freshers’ to start next week this weekend, with Jamie adding: “It’s pretty novel living in Amy’s old place and I’m pretty hyped about the house party potential.

“But if I’m honest I’m just happy to have a dishwasher and a bath.”
