UCL officially calls off all face-to-face teaching for rest of year

In light of the rapid spread of Covid-19, UCL have suspended face-to-face teaching for the rest of the academic year. The university is going to use online teaching as much as possible.

Teaching has been suspended from the 13^th  of March, and online teaching is expected to being on Monday 16th March.

This means that all Term Three teaching for undergraduates will take place online. The Academic Committee have also said that they are seeking to “significantly reduce the amount of further formal assessment for first-year undergraduates. This is to reduce the burden on staff.” They have also suspended all lab work for undergraduate students.

Assessments which were scheduled during the main exam period (27^th April- 5^th June 2020) have also been cancelled, and will be replaced with online alternatives.

Faculties and departments will be developing new assessments for students to take remotely. They have advised students to continue studying as if they were going to sit the same exams they prepared for in the summer, even though the assessment method will be different.

Possible alternative forms of testing include open book exams, coursework-style assessment and 24-hour exam papers. All of these will take place away from university and the Excel centre.

International and Exchange students have also been advised to return to their home country until further notice. Also all trips and tours have been cancelled until further notice.

The UCL Union Education and Postgraduate Officers are meeting daily to ensure any changes and decisions have the students best interests’ at heart.
