UCL to use a ‘flexible approach’ to learning in Term 1

UCL confirms the campus and libraries will be open from September

Today UCL released an update on what we can expect in term one, and are encouraging a ‘flexible approach’ to learning in order to respond to the latest developments in official guidance by the government in the face of the Coronavirus.

Lectures will be online and there will be interactive sessions in person or online to discuss topics you are learning. However,  sessions like small-seminar groups, lab practicals and studio work will be on campus and in person as long as social distancing measures permit them.

UCL has also confirmed that the campus and libraries will open from 28th September 2020, with more course materials to be put online to facilitate learning. In addition the Student Centre and learning spaces will be be open.

However, the University has emphasised that the year ‘is going to look and feel different from your previous years as we adapt to living, working and studying through the global coronavirus pandemic.’ The will include a one-way system, deep cleaning of University buildings, and wearing face coverings on campus. UCL is also making soap and hand sanitiser available to students.

It has also been made clear that these measures are still open to change, as current social distancing requirements will guide how much teaching can be delivered in person at any time.
