UCL announces campus will re-open in September

UCL has announced plans to re-open campus to the majority of students in September 2021.

Their current plan addresses the re-opening of campus as well as teaching in the next academic year.

The proposal is based on feedback provided by current students.

UCL will be taking a “blended by design” approach to learning where students will receive a mix of online and face-to-face teaching.

Online learning will consist of live teaching, digital learning activities, and recorded lectures. On campus, priority will be given to interactive face-to-face teaching, such as seminars and workshops, laboratory and studio practicals.

Students are expected to receive more information about learning in the next academic year from individual departments no later than 1 July 2021.

Students who are unable to attend in person lessons due to coronavirus travel restrictions will be able to commence their education online for a “short period of time”.

However, students will not have the option to undertake their studies entirely online.

There will also be opportunities to engage with activities such as volunteering, sustainability and entrepreneurship programmes, and societies. These will be available online and in person, subject to social distancing guidance.

To ensure safety, UCL will continue to provide on campus COVID-19 testing facilities. There will be zoning systems around all buildings, enhanced cleaning of teaching spaces, and all students will be asked to wear face coverings if they are able to do so.
