UCL Student’s Union aims to resume in-person society activity in term three

Just in time for exam season

The UCL Student Union has announced that they plan to “allow safe in-person activity to take place as soon as it is legal to do so”.

In their recent update they provided students with a provisional timetable for the return to in-person events:

29th March

Societies can resume outdoor in-person activity off campus with the rule of six in place. However, an additional risk assessment with Covid-19 control measures must be submitted and approved by the Union.

Sports clubs with approved Covid-19 risk assessments can resume outdoor core activity.

12th April

Bloomsbury fitness will re-open for individual training – Goodbye Chloe Ting workouts! (That is if you’re somehow still doing those.)

26th April

Union activity spaces will reopen on campus for outdoor and indoor in-person activity, both with the rule of six in place. Once again, a Covid-19 core risk assessment is needed for these activities.

17th May

Outdoor activity with up to 30 people (or the maximum Covid-19 capacity of the venue) can take place.

The Union also announced “TeamUCL Sports Leagues” for societies in term three. The sports leagues are social and semi-competitive leagues for all UCL students and include:

  • Dodgeball (Tuesdays, 18:00 – 20:00 at Somers Town Community Sports Centre)
  • Touch Rugby (Wednesdays, 16:30 – 18:30 at TBC)
  • Netball (Thursdays 18:00 – 20:00 at Somers Town Community Sports Centre)
  • Cricket (Fridays, 16:30 – 18:30 at TBC)

If you’re not part of a society team you can complete this form and the Union will allocate you one.

The Union reminded students that they must make sure they are “up to date with the Union’s Covid-19 secure activity guidance”.  And, that “in line with the government ‘stay local’ guidance, individuals should not be travelling out of their local area where they are currently based to attend any activity”.

The current schedule is dependent on the government’s road-map out of lockdown. But hopefully we can all procrastinate our assignments and exams by cramming in a year’s worth of in-person events this May!
