Northern Line reopening next Monday after 17 week closure
The service between Kennington and Moorgate will reopen on May 16th, TFL confirms
The Northern line service between Kennington and Moorgate will reopen on Monday May 16th after being closed since mid-January.
The popular branch had been closed for 17 weeks while TFL carried out works at Bank station to increase capacity.
For the past five months, there had been no service at Bank, London Bridge, Borough, and Elephant and Castle.
More than 120 million passengers use both Bank and Monument stations every year, making these stations two of the busiest stations in the entire TFL network. TFL closed the Bank branch to make room for a new escalator, a new station entrance on Canon Street, and more room for passengers, increasing capacity by 40 per cent. However, some of these changes will not be available until later in the year.
Londoners will benefit from a new Southbound platform and concourse. The Central line however, will only open in Autumn.

Stuart Harvey, TFL’s chief capital officer said:
“Anyone who’s familiar with Bank station will know how its labyrinthian layout can be confusing and time-consuming to navigate. Northern line customers now have a new, wider southbound platform and spacious customer concourse.”
The news comes along with the confirmation that the new Elizabeth line will also open this month on 24th May, one week after the reopening of the Northern line.
