Revealed: These are the least and most popular University of London halls
Only two per cent of all applications went to the least popular one
Choosing a hall is a stressful task. Not only do you have to research practical things like locations and fees, but you’d also have to sniff around for the stereotypes associated with each of them (so you don’t end up at a “party hall” unintentionally.)
Regardless, going with the crowd and choosing the most popular option usually can’t go wrong.
To help you with that, The London Tab inquired into the University of London to reveal the least and most popular intercollegiate halls in its system based on the number of applications.
The UoL received over 4,500 applications per year for its eight intercollegiate halls during 2021-22 and 2022-23.
Overall, Handel Mansions received the least number of applications, with under five per cent of the total for this and last year. Meanwhile, Garden Halls were applied to the most, with over 25 per cent of all applications over the same periods.
It’s no surprise Garden Halls is the most popular since it’s usually described as “a hotel” or similarly by students.
But it’s unclear why Handel Mansions is applied to the least. It’s neither the most expensive nor notoriously known among students, though factors like all rooms being not en-suite and self-catered might make it less desirable than other intercollegiate UoL halls.
