The Return of the People's Champion
After seven years in retirement the peoples champ has finally returned to wrestling.
On 11th February 1990 Nelson Mandela was released from prison and allowed to return to South African Politics as President. Monday night saw another great return that compares and possibly even surpasses this event in terms of magnitude and importance to world affairs.
I am of course talking about the return of The Peoples champion The Rock to wrestling and Monday night Raw.
Seven years ago the world was plunged into mourning on a day that goes down as one of the bleakest ever in human history, as the most electrifying man in sports entertainment announced his retirement from wrestling.
We were no longer were able to enjoy visual delights such as the Rock Bottom and the Peoples elbow, not to mention his legendary monologues and catchphrases.
Since this fateful day wrestling has plummeted in quality with modern day fans favourite John Cena and Randy Orton not even comparing to the legend that is the Rock.
Then, on this weeks’ episode of Monday night raw, this year’s mystery host of Wrestlemania was due to be announced. The crowd and TV audience was plunged into suspense as we awaited the entrance of the mystery man.
“If Ya Smmmeeeellll what the rock is cooking!!!!” Then rang around the arena and the crowd went crazy as the Jabroni Beating legend walked towards the ring. A gripping 20 minute monologue then ensued that left all those watching remembering why they loved the man who had been absent for far too long.
He confirmed our expectations when he explained that the reason he has returned is not for the money but for us, the fans.
Wrestlemania is now a must watch and we can only hope that he lives up to his promise of “bringing the Smackdown!” to John Cena and The Miz.
We don’t know if The Rock will wrestle or even how long he’ll be back but “IT DOESN’T MATTER!!”
