SUSU Condemns Carnage

She told the BBC:

Carnage UK don’t have a great reputation for promoting equality between men and women and this choice of fancy dress theme does little to repair that with student unions.

However, second year student, Megan Sherman, told the Soton Tab upon hearing the news:

Giving people the freedom to say yes or no to participating in events that make unequal gender distinctions is what gives equality meaning. As opposed to achieving ‘equality’ by taking that choice away.

Chloe Green was not the only students’ union representative to express their views on Carnage. Portsmouth’s SU President also criticised Carnage saying: “If attention to detail is not maintained, criminal offences of selling alcohol to already heavily intoxicated people, or allowing disorderly conduct on any of the premises involved in the event, could occur.”

If having a ‘pimps and hoes’ theme for the event really does ostracize women then perhaps Carnage UK should hold their next event with the theme of ‘civil rights campaigners and suffragettes’. As a final year student, who asked not to be named, said:

I would love to see girls dressed as Emmeline Pankhurst getting wasted in the streets.

Southampton Carnage is due to take place on the 18^th October and is set to sell out.
