Southampton students have been lumped in a disappointing last place for money spent on booze each week.
The survey conducted by My Voucher Codes of 18 year olds found that Southampton students spent on average £28.42 on nights out a week, putting us in last place (out of 10).
At the top of the table, Birmingham students spent almost two and half times that of Southampton at £68 per week on booze.
The survey also found that, on a national average, students head out 4.2 times a week in term time but only 1.7 times during the holidays.
Mark Pearson, chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said:
We’re all aware of the heavy partying that goes on at universities across the UK, but it’s important for students to try and keep things under control financially, especially when it’s your first year at university.
Students obviously want to have a good time, but making sure you spend within your limits is vital. Alcohol clearly isn’t cheap, but it doesn’t look like that stops many from dedicating a large chunk of their weekly budget to it next week.
Just ensure it’s not affecting your studies; whilst it may be fun at the time, in the long run there is plenty of time for nights out when you’ve graduated.
Despite spending less than thirty quid a week on going out, perhaps it can be justified for us visiting the cheaper watering holes on offer.
