NONE of the Portswood sexual assaults reported in 2014 led to convictions

Zero of the 26 sexual assaults reported in Portswood in the past year have led to a conviction.

Only one of the 65 sexual assaults in central Southampton reported to Hampshire Constabulary police between 1 January 2014 and 15 December 2014 have yet led to a conviction.

The findings, based on a Freedom of Information request sent by Soton Tab, revealed 83.5 per cent of the victims in all 91 reported sexual offences in Portswood and central Southampton were female.

The majority of reported sexual assaults in both areas occurred between midnight and 1am. Surprisingly, there were just as many reported between 23:00 and midnight than there were at 12 noon, during the day.

After midnight, the number of reported sexual assaults dramatically increased.

The data also reveals peaks in the times of reported sexual assaults in Portswood around the hours of 04:00, 12:00 and 21:00.

There has only been one conviction for the 91 cases for which the Soton Tab obtained data, for a sexual assault that occurred in central Southampton. Hampshire Constabulary’s Public Access Officer Nuala Richman said convictions do not include cautions or community resolutions.

While the number of convictions for the 91 cases of sexual assaults is yet to surpass just one for the 1 January to 15 December period, the Crown Court waiting list for trials to be listed are currently in excess of 50 weeks.
