Drinking water, English breakfasts and even the famous Chickoland kebabs won’t save you from a killer hangover.
Everyone has their own ‘hangover cure’, but new research shows that no matter what you do, there is no way to prevent yourself from getting a hangover.
Post-club food, usually a filthy kebab from around the corner, has no affect, nor does drinking water before going to bed. The classic English Breakfast in the morning, heavy in fatty acids that may actually worsen a hangover, has been dispelled as ineffective.
Even the mums’ favourite of “drink a glass of water for every glass of alcohol” has been proven to fail.
The study was conducted on over 800 Dutch students and just under 800 Canadian students.
Joris Verster, from Utretch University and the head author of the paper, said:
Drinking water may help against thirst and a dry mouth, but it will not take away the misery, the headache and the nausea.
There is only one sure-fire way to prevent a hangover according to the study: drink less alcohol
Dr Verster added that part of the problem was that scientists still didn’t know what actually causes a hangover, although one suspects that it may have to do with, you know, booze.
Part of the problem is that once the blood alcohol concentration goes beyond 0.2%, their really is no way of stopping the inevitable pain the next day. The study found that almost every person studied who went beyond this limit suffered a hangover the next day.
