John Smith’s bookshop have confirmed the launch of a range of video gaming products, which can be purchased on Entitlement credit by anyone eligible.

The store, situated on Burgess Road near the computer science building, next to the Costa, now stocks PS4, Xbox One and Wii U, in addition to accessories and a small collection of games for each system- and jammy third year students could use their £300 credit to seal a bargain price for the hardware.

A John Smith’s staff member told the Soton Tab “The structure of the business is that the Web Team manage the sales of them, so they are not usually available instore”, but confirmed they are available online.

He went on to confirm they could be purchased using the now-defunct university credit system, saying “As for the Entitlement Card, that can be used on anything apart from food, drink and tobacco.”

Who needs a 1st?

John Smith’s customer service team later confirmed that Xbox’s had been stocked since March, which led to the mass of other suppliers, saying- “the success of the Xbox One’s [meant] we later got the PS4 in stock in May”

Student Entitlement was a credit scheme ran by the University between 2011 and 2014, in which all incoming students were awarded £300 annually for the duration of their undergraduate studies,

It was scrapped from 2014 onwards as the University deemed it “exceptionally generous”, according to their report filed with the Office for Fair Access. This means that first and second years will have to stump up cash to buy one.

The products are also available to anyone who has graduated in the last two years, and has credit remaining on their account.

Harry, a second year Law student, said “I’ll probably get an Xbox so I can flip it on ebay for straight cash.

“It’s easier than trying to sell my course books on”.
