Well, this was no conventional ‘girly night’. In fact, I have not been to such a luxurious social event in my entire womanly life. Women4Women International, worldwide charity and baby-faced St Andrews society, paired up with Market Street’s Charlie Taylor (the hair dresser opposite Sainsbury’s) to bring its members a night of beauty and indulgence in order to raise money for “socially excluded women in eight countries where war and conflict have devastated communities.”

Angela Hrstic, Elle Presidente of W4W this year, described the occasion as a way to “raise awareness for the charity whilst providing a girly night of bonding for our members.”

On arrival, we were greeted by three hairdressers, one trainee and their manager, who – most importantly – showed us to the wine and snacks (demolished by the end of the night). She told us about their services, entered us into a raffle, the winner of which was announced at the evening’s end, and then delivered a few words about Charlie Taylor itself:

“Our aim is to offer the best customer care to our clients, so we’re treating you to the best hair care products and hairdressers to ensure you all have fantastic, healthy locks!”

As the wine flowed and we chilled and chatted, ladiez, three at a time, would disappear from the group, only to return looking like absolute babes – hair having been masked, washed, blow-dried and styled to perfection. It was just like when the camera magic of Stars in their Eyes boggled my mind as a child. Just me?

At the end of the evening, we went home having raised money for a wonderful cause, with goodie bags in hand, discounted products purchased, and bombshell hair to top it all off. Not bad for twelve quid each!

Keep your eyes peeled for another “Girl’s Night In” in the spring – perhaps it’ll time to be a pre-May-Ball hair-style sesh…
