Five things to do this week

Despite the sudden materialisation of essay deadlines this week, don’t deprive yourself of all of these events, perfect for procrastination

1. Support St Andrews Against Slavery

St Andrews Against Slavery, a society set up by two St Andrews students last year in their endeavour to educate their fellow students about human trafficking, is holding a few events this week in the run-up to Anti-Slavery Day UK on Saturday October 18th. On Tuesday October 14th they’re planning to tantalise our taste buds with a bake sale outside the Vic from 09:00 until 16:00, and on Thursday 16th are screening the film ‘Gardens of the Night’ in School 3 from 18:00 until 20:00. On Saturday 18th the girls are presenting a truly unique exhibition in the Barron Theatre from 11:00 until 16:00, which will depict different aspects of sex trafficking through audio-visual installations, playing with attendees’ senses to reproduce the experience of a sex slave.

2. Strut your stuff at Sitara’s modelling auditions

If you missed out on auditioning to be a model in FS or DONT WALK, have no fear, you’ve still got the chance to walk down a catwalk in beautiful ethnic clothing, surrounded by people cheering your name and blinded by flashing cameras. Auditions are being held on October 13th and 15th in the upstairs room of the Old Union Diner from 18:00 until 21:00, and girls have been asked to bring a pair of heels, while it’s mandatory for everyone to wear tight clothing. I predict a sexy show!

3. Fight for your sports club

This Wednesday October 15th the St Andrews Women’s Rugby Club is hosting the very first Club Warfare, designed so that our sports teams can battle it out to determine the best club in the form of an amicable dance-off in the glorious surroundings of Venue 1. Tickets are £3 on the door, but a special deal is available for clubs who wish to book tickets for their members in advance. If you’re interested in booking early, get your Social Representative to email ih31@st-andrews.ac.uk.

4. Be cultural this weekend

If you’re getting bored of trips to the Lizard and movie nights accompanied by ice cream and slutty brownies, and want something more intellectually stimulating to do this weekend, go to see ‘Pornography’ on Friday or Saturday, a play directed by second year student Joanna Bowman, which captures the sudden removal of the British population’s positivity by the terrorist attack of 7/7. The play starts at 19:30 and tickets can be purchased on the door for £5, as well as be reserved by emailing barronboxoffice@st-andrews.ac.uk.

5. Embrace your wild side at Bongo

It’s finally here! St Andrews’ wild, eccentric ball is being held once again this Friday at Crail Airfield. Although ticket sales were a couple of weeks back, I’ve heard that there are still a few tickets left to be bought, so if you haven’t already done so, please buy one to avoid missing out on a night of animal face paint, bonfires and most importantly, free chips!
