Brighton student blown up fighting for Al-Qaeda
Ibrahim Kamara ‘dreamed of martyrdom’
A US air strike killed a 19-year-old jihadi who left Brighton to fight for Al-Qaeda in Syria.
Ibrahim Kamara, also known as Khalil al-Britani, died in the attack on the city of Aleppo.
The football loving student who “dreamed about martyrdom” traveled to Syria last February after stealing his 15-year old brothers passport.
His mother, Khadijah Kamara, who runs the charity shop Strive in the way of Allah on Lewes road, said she knew her son was going to die out there, and came very close to disowning him when she found out he had gone to Syria.
She said: “He called me in February. He said: ‘Mum, I’m in Syria’, and I hung up. He rang again and I said: ‘Don’t ever call me.”‘
Mrs. Kamara, found out about her eldest sons death on social media. She said her family received a picture of her dead son with the message “congratulations your brother has been martyred”.
A photo posted on Facebook earlier this week shows Kamara’s face in an unzipped body bag, bloodied and covered in sand.
Ibrahim’s mother was stunned about how quickly he was radicalized. She said: “It all happened so fast. He was just a normal boy, going to school, playing football. He wasn’t disrespectful. He just met the wrong people.
“They want to get these young kids to do their dirty work for them. I have forgiven him and I have forgiven myself if I have done anything wrong. But for those who have brainwashed him, God will decide on the day of judgment”.
Ibrahim is said to have died, along with four other British nationals, during an airstrike led by US forces on the Syrian city of Aleppo.
Sources say he was hit by a missile fired from an American drone.
A spokesperson for the Foreign Office said: “We are aware of reports of the deaths of British Nationals in Syria”.
