Steins, lederhosen and oompah: Oktoberfest on campus

Sussex loves a good stein

Over the weekend, Falmer bar was transformed into a German paradise complete with lederhosen, bier and bratwurst, and Sussex was loving it.

Hundreds of people attended, and the event even had its own line of merchandise.

The hundreds of beer-drenched attendees could enjoy German cookie decorating, traditional foods, and oompah music.

Wacky party games were also on the menu. One of our brave writers had a crack at ‘milk the cow’, as well as a beer-holding competition. Beer barrel rolling, a popular and traditional Oktoberfest game, was also up and running.

To get the party started, a traditional German oomaph band played both pop and traditional songs, and even managed to fit in a cover  of Bohemian Rhapsody.

Students absolutely loved it. postgraduate Abha said: “The spirit of Oktoberfest filled the bar and lasted until the end of the day. You can’t go wrong with beer, music and friends.”

Who said you have to go clubbing to have fun?
