Uni Rugby are attempting Movember, this is how they’re getting on so far
The month that separates the men from the boys
November can only mean one thing for men across the country, attempting to grow as impressive a moustache as their hair follicles can muster. The Movember campaign hopes to highlight the importance of discussing men’s mental health.
The University of York men’s rugby team have thrown themselves into the challenge. The club aimed to raise £250 this month and at the mid-way point in their fundraising they’ve already reached the halfway mark. Club President, Ben Osgood, stated, “The club is proud to be supporting Movember this year, a charity that does so much great work with many different aspects of men’s health around the globe. We hope some of our members’ pathetic attempts at growing facial hair will inspire people to donate as much as they can for a great cause.”
Although challenges run all year round, the Movember Foundation encourages men to don facial hair for 30 days in order to raise awareness and ultimately, quite literally, change the face of men’s mental health. The website states that since 2003, where the project started in Australia, there have been 1,200 men’s health projects funded through the money raised from this worldwide campaign with over 5 million people getting involved.
Alex Murtagh explains, “I decided it would be a good idea for the club to get involved in Movember this year in order to raise awareness of the issues surrounding men’s health. It’s something that takes no real effort on our part but any money raised could ultimately make a real difference to people’s lives.”
If you wish to support this campaign, you can donate to the clubs Just Giving page.
