A Uni of York tutor allegedly called Jeremy Hunt a ‘fucking twat’ and said ‘Tories, fuck them’ in a seminar

He is currently being questioned by his department

A seminar tutor at The University of York is being questioned by his department after he allegedly made anti-Tory remarks whilst teaching a class.

Final year PPE student Arthur Reynolds claimed in a tweet that his tutor called Jeremy Hunt "a fucking twat," and said "Tories, fuck them" during a seminar.

Arthur later tweeted he has made a formal complaint to his department and The Tab understands the seminar tutor will be questioned by their department to find out what happened.

Since posting, Arthur's original tweet has received over 500 retweets and 1,000 likes, including support from former MPs Edwina Currie and Douglas Carswell, and also Theresa May's former chief of staff Nick Timothy.

Speaking to The Tab, Tom Seston, a committee member of the York Tories, shared his own claims of experiencing anti-Tory bias from university staff:

“All in all I’m shocked but not surprised. Most lecturers are lefties, I’ve seen a poster of Ché Guevara in one office. Most of the flack we get is from the students but occasionally the lecturers jibe in.

"I was in a lecture with over 200 politics first years and the topic of the lecture was austerity. The lecturer was talking about party positions on austerity. When we came onto the subject of the Conservative party, the lecturer said, ‘You know… you may just think fuck the poor and vote Conservative.’ After the mass giggles, he then followed with: ‘Oh, maybe I shouldn’t have said that.’

"Later in the same lecture he was talking about government spending and was referring to the massive deficit we had under Labour in 2010 and asked a question, ‘Who thought that was Labour’s fault?’

"A student who had replied was then told the reason they believed that out of control spending was the fault of the Labour government was that they had been influenced by 'Tory propaganda'.”
