New YUSU Sabbatical Officers announced with four of five officers female

Following the YUSU elections, the Sabbatical team, or Sabbs, have been announced for the 2019/20 academic year.

The results were announced on Saturday evening and show a reversal of recent history with the majority of roles elected to have female officers.

Samara Jones will succeed James Durcan as YUSU President while Ollie Martin will take on a role as Student Activities Officer.

Giang Anh has been elected to the position of Academic Officer and Maddi Cannell will take over as Sports President.

Current Community and Well-being Officer Steph Hayle has been re-elected and will continue in the role for the 2019/20 academic year.

In addition to the Sabbs, results were also announced for the Part Time Officers. Those elected as PTOs will take up their roles from next term.

Merry Dickinson and Mark Matthews were elected as Environment and Ethics Officers, Annie Bocock and Sam Meadows were elected as RAG Officers while Gem Card and Matt Gordon were elected as LGBTQ+ Officers.

Also elected were Emily Johnsen to Volunteering Officer, Jessica Rendini and Sorhna Perrot to International Officers, Ally Smith and Daisy Slate to Women's Officers and Ioana Dumitrescu to Mature Students' Officer.

There were no candidates for BAME Officer, Disabled Students Officer or Working Class Officer so a by-election will be held before the PTOs begin their roles.
