University of York offering free Covid-19 rapid result tests to students
Testing will begin next Monday
The University of York is offering its students the opportunity to book free Covid-19 rapid results tests on campus. An email sent by academic registrar Dr. Wayne Campbell to all York students today, says the tests are available for students who plan on leaving York at the end of term, and who demonstrate no symptoms associated with coronavirus.
The email also announces to be aware however, that Covid-19 rapid result testing is not adequate for international flights.
The email directs students intended on international travel to look at the University of York travel advice page.
In order to conform with the governments’ student travel timeframe testing will begin on Monday November 30th and shall conclude on Sunday December 6th. The university is aware of travel complications and is exploring options to secure rapid testing after the deadline.
Booking a free on campus Covid-19 rapid results test is voluntary, but the email tells students that “ideally, you should book two tests three days apart and leave within 24 hours of your second negative test.”
Students should also be aware the Covid-19 rapid result testing is not adequate for international flights, and directs students to look at the University of York travel advice page.
The emailalso addresses students staying in York over Christmas, saying “there will be a range of services and activities available on campus over the break”.
