A young man has been hospitalised after falling from the Cathays railway bridge

He fell 15 feet

A young man has been hospitalised after falling from the bridge on New Year’s Day.

In the early hours of New Year’s Day, police responded to reports of an incident at Cathays Railway Station next to Cardiff University Students’ Union.

Four ambulances, along with numerous police vehicles attended the scene, where a young man had fallen 15 feet on to the railway line.

He was found at the Park Place entrance, still conscious and breathing.

The man had fallen 15ft on to the railway line

The man was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, where his injuries were described as “non- life threatening” by the South Wales Ambulance Service.

There had only been a limited rail service in operation, with the station normally acting as a commuting hot spot for Cardiff’s University students.

With possible connections being made to an earlier car crash outside The Woodville Pub, the cause of the incident is yet to be disclosed.

The British Transport Police are continuing their investigation.
