Cardiff Uni says money saved during strikes will be used to ‘support students’

The money comes from staff salaries

During the strikes, staff members do not get paid as they strike from work, meaning universities save money from their salaries.

Cardiff University plans to use the money saved to support students and their affected schools, The Cardiff Tab can reveal.

A spokesperson for Cardiff University said: "The salary that is held back from staff who take action will be used by the University to support students and to address the disruption caused by industrial action.”

This comes from Sheffield Hallam's announcement of using their saved money from salaries, some £200k, to help their students from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Today, Cardiff's Vice-Chancellor Colin Riordan was asked what the university is going to do with the money saved, to which he replied "a lot of money is already given to disadvantaged students".
