The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are in Cardiff talking to students about mental health

This morning The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge continued their nationwide Royal Train tour of the UK, stopping off in none other than Cardiff. They continue to chat to those most affected by the coronavirus pandemic, including frontline workers and have expressed an interest in speaking to Cardiff students today about how the pandemic has affected their mental health.

They were in Cardiff Castle at 9am this morning, toasting marshmallows at a Winter in the Castle stall. A band of drummers played music while they were in there until 10am, when they left the castle for their next destination.

Speaking on their trip to Wales amongst rising Welsh Covid-19 cases, Welsh MP Vaughn Gething was not very pleased. “I’m not particularly bothered or interested because I don’t think that is going to be an excuse for people to say: ‘I should go and behave in a different way and I should act as if the harm that is being seen in front of us in every part of our healthcare system is not taking place’.”

He said to BBC Radio 4: “I’d rather that no-one was having unnecessary visits, and people always have divisive views about the monarchy, but their visit isn’t an excuse for people to say that they are confused about what they are being asked to do.”

Some Cardiff Met students who chatted to the Duke and Duchess involved them in their secret Santa. The Duchess was bought a Welsh Lovespoon while the Duke was given a Guinness coaster game. The Royals gave the students a Prosecco pong set. Jel.
