Mark Drakeford says clubs could open on August 7th amongst other easing restrictions

Following the announcement of restrictions easing on July 17th, the First Minister has said Wales is set to lift nearly all restrictions on socialising and businesses, including night clubs on August 7th.

Drakeford has said: “We are entering a new phase of the pandemic. Cases of the virus have risen sharply since the delta variant emerged six weeks ago but, thanks to our fantastic vaccination programme, we are not seeing these translate into large numbers of people falling seriously ill or needing hospital treatment.”

Currently, August 7th will see all premises reopen, and the majority of restrictions will be removed and replaced according to the coronavirus situation at the time. There will also be no legal restrictions on the number of people who may meet inside, including private property.

These changes were previously underway but halted last month by officials after the Delta variant spread throughout the UK with the intent that with time, more people will be vaccinated in Wales.

Wales will begin to move towards alert level zero (as per the plan), meaning limits on groups who meet at events or public spaces will be removed.

This means that from July 17th:

• Six people can meet indoors in private homes and holiday lodgings

• Organised indoor events can accommodate up to 1,000 seated or 200 standing

• Ice rinks may reopen

Despite this, face coverings will still be essential by law in most indoor spaces and on public transport.
