These are the best vintage shops in Cardiff to spice up your winter wardrobe
This winter, treat yourself while being fashionably sustainable
Winter has come very quickly, and very coldly, so you might be thinking of updating your wardrobe and getting those winter woolies in.
But in a time of eco-conscious buying, and doing everything you can to save those pennies, you may be wondering where to turn? Look no further, we have compiled a list of Cardiff’s best vintage clothing stores for you to check out this winter:
Hobos, High Street Arcade
Hobos is filled with two floors of vintage clothing and accessories from the 60s to the 80s.
As far as vintage clothing goes, they are very reasonably priced and even have a £5 sale rail on the lower floor which is too tempting not to take advantage of.
At first glance there seems to be a lot more mens’ clothing than womens’ but who says the denim jackets and baggy t-shirts can’t be uni-sex?
All of the stock is sourced from a close-friend of the owner, and he’s brought off him since 1993. If a heart warming story and the student friendly prices don’t tempt you, how about a cheeky 10 per cent student discount and a free of charge, colourful and biodegradable bag to take your finds home in.
Sobeys, Royal Arcade
If you’re looking for shoes, bags, hats, coats, or a new beret, Sobeys is the place for you. A trip to Sobeys will fill a bleak wardrobe with the pop of colour it needs, not to mention the store is very Instagram worthy.
The staff in there are lovely and more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the clothing and how each individual item was made.
Sobeys does not only vintage clothes, but they also rework unusable fabrics such as old curtains into new clothes like skirts and dungarees dresses, which means the clothes are not only unique but also sustainable.
Knight Vintage, Cardiff Central Market
Upstairs in Cardiff Market lies a small corner store packed with men’s hats, shoes, jackets, t-shirts, and trousers.
The owner travels up and down the country hand-picking clothes to sell in his store. He started by buying vintage clothes in Asia but now focuses on contacting the South Wales community of ex-ravers and DJs from when the clothes were first in fashion. The only thing better than a new jacket is being able to boast to your friends the story behind your new jacket.
Knight Vintage is also a great place to visit if you want to have the vintage style on a student budget as there’s a bargain bucket where everything is £5, £10, £15 or £20.
Furthermore, if you love a freebie you’ll love this store; you get a free sticker after any purchase.
Flamingos, Capitol Shopping Centre
If you’ve ever been in the Capitol Shopping Centre, you’ll be familiar with Flamingos: Cardiff’s only vintage store that sells by the kilo. Each item has a coloured tag, which determines the price per kilo of clothing.
If you’re super thrifty this is the place for you!
Keep an eye on their Instagram as once in a while they also do £5 off a kilo for students with a valid student ID
So there you have it, Cardiff’s best vintage stores for you to browse through.
It’s worth noting, not only would you be buying second-hand, but you will be buying from small-businesses. Plus, if you find a great Christmas gift for someone it’ll be one of a kind!
