Lancaster Uni announces that the library will be open 24/7 for summer term

The library will no longer be restricting its opening hours

Lancaster University has confirmed its plans to reopen the campus library on a 24/7 basis from Monday 19th April.

In an announcement released this week, Andrew Barker, the Director of Library Services, confirmed that “given the government announcement in February regarding the easing of Lockdown, we are hoping that we will be able to re-open the library on a 24/7 basis from Monday 19th April.”

The statement continued: “Our maximum building capacity remains 673 in the existing library building. However, we are hopeful that our new library extension will be available for use later in the Summer Term and this will expand our capacity, watch this space for more news on the extension completion.

“We will continue to operate an allocation system for the number of spaces available to book each week. The initial allocation will be 30 hours a week per individual and booking is available online. As with all parts of our service, we’ll be reviewing that as experience teaches us what works, so this limit may increase or decrease as we go through the term.”

The library has not operated on a 24/7 basis for a while, as part of the university’s Covid prevention measures

Barker urged students to “book in advance,” to use the Digital Library and stressed that “face coverings are still a must” when studying in the library.
