Everything happening in Leeds this week to help you beat the Freshers’ Week blues

The best guide in Leeds is back

Whether you’re a third year stressing about the looming commitment of your dissertation, a second year overwhelmed by the sudden realisation that you’re actually going to have to do the work this year, or a fresher still recovering from four nights out in a row, this is the guide for you.

Monday 2nd October, Snapped Ankles, Brudenell Social Club

Doors open at 7:30 pm and advance tickets are £6. ‘Snapped Ankles have emerged from the woods clutching an album that feels simultaneously modern and ancient. This is what dance music will sounds like when computers finally fail us. Log synths, bass guitar and sticks on taut animal skin coalesce to form fearsome primal rhythms. Fuzz guitars rubbing up against dirty rolling arpeggiated synthesisers to ignite wild white noise fires. Forest folklore passed down through generations, has made its way onto the tracks. ‘ If this sounds like the band for you, your night is sorted.

Monday 2nd October, New Found Glory, O2 Academy Arena

‘Pop punk heavyweights New Found Glory will take to the stage for their 20th anniversary. Not only will they be performing their albums Sticks & Stones and Catalyst, but they’ll also be touring tracks off their forthcoming album, Makes Me Sick.’ Doors open at 7:00 pm.

Wednesday 4th October, Thy Art Is Murder, The Key Club

Tickets are £15.40 and the event is only for over 14s. Tickets are currently sold out but there is a waiting list you could join and there’s always someone selling tickets last minute.

Wednesday 4th October, Lucy Spraggan, Brudenell Social Club

One of the only acts that requires little introduction, Lucy Spraggan will be gracing Leeds with her presence. Doors open at 7:30 pm for all of those that want an evening not spent at the Brotherton.

Thursday 5th October, The Mountain Goats, Brudenell Social Club

Doors open at 7:30 pm for those wanting to watch them perform from their new album ‘Goths’ – certainly better than any seminar preparation.

Sunday 8th October, Dua Lipa – The Self Titled Tour, O2 Academy Area

For stalls standing, tickets are £21.25 and balcony tickets are the same price. From 7:00 pm, you can expect to hear popular tunes like ‘Be the one’, ‘Blow your mind’ and ‘Hotter than hell’. Instead of dabbing in Hi-Fi you can sing along live.
