Leicester Go Wild for Zoologist Attenborough
University recognise unrivalled wildlife contribution
The contribution of world renowned zoologist and broadcaster, David Attenborough, is to be celebrated by the University of Leicester.
Attenborough, a Distinguished Honorary Fellow, who has long standing connections to the University having grown up in College House and whose father was Principal of the University, is to become an even more integral part of campus life.
Few details are known of the statue but speculation is that it will depict the tear-jerking moments that he spent with a blind rhino in the final scenes of his latest series, Africa.
The prospect of having the statue at the University and having Mr. Attenborough unveil it personally is already creating a buzz around campus and the demand for photos and autographs is sure to be overwhelming.
Some students have even considered ‘pitching a tent next to the statue a week in advance’.
Some details about the statue are sure to be revealed in the very near future so keep your eyes peeled for updates! In the mean time we’ve put together this map showing what we think are the most likely locations for the statue.
1) Outside the Bennet Building. Mr. Attenborough does not really have connections to this building or area of the University so this one seems unlikely. It’s also slightly out of the way from the main areas of campus.
2) In front of the Attenborough Tower. This is perhaps the most likely location given his connections with the tower and College House, just around the corner.
3) In front of the Library. In plain view of College House, it also seems quite likely. Perhaps the only reason why it would not be located here is the recent redevelopment of the area in front of the library.
4) In front of the Fielding Johnson Building. This is a large space but already features a sculpture. It seems like an unlikely location.
